Do you remember the story of poor Chicken Little? One day a nut fell from a tree, hitting her on the head. She instantly assumes a tragedy is occurring and runs to lead others in a paranoid parade to tell the Lion. As is true in all good fables, Chicken Little's tragic flaw - her worrisome nature - leads to her demise. She dim-wittingly follows the fox into his den and never comes out again. So much for Chicken Little.
I am plagued by insomnia since school began. Every afternoon I am beat, ready for a nap or my favorite cup of Senseo cappucino, or both. Then dusk sets in and my mind goes into nocturnal mode. What will I do tomorrow at school? What about this lesson or that idea? What about the morning routine? What if my alarm doesn't work or the kids forget their stuff or someone gets sick?
Since when am I a worrier?? I don't want to be a worrier, I want to be a WARRIOR, a prayer warrior, that is. "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7. God's word clearly communicates His desire to carry our burdens, but apparently I am missing a crucial step... I think it's my casting; my casting looks more like hurling as I continually throw out "Hail Mary" prayers... "Please don't let this happen. Please don't let that happen." They are more like Chicken Little requests, aren't they?!
Until today, I never noticed that poor besmirched Chicken Little did do one thing right... she was taking her concerns to the King. The Lion, the King of the Jungle, that is. Unfortunately, she too easily took her eyes off the Lion and was distracted by the Fox, who had chicken sushi on his lunch menu, but that's beside the point. Perhaps if she had googled a more direct route to the King, she wouldn't have been waylaid by the fox. As Christians we have our own road map, God's word. Perhaps my parade of worries will grow shorter as I consult my Bible, my map and outline a more direct path to the King.
